Internship objective: Provide students hands-on experience with Public Relations and Marketing in a non-profit organization.

Semesters interns are needed: Fall, spring, Su I & Su II annually

Number of interns needed: minimum of one

Start date: On or near the first day of the semester, negotiable

End date:
On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable

Hours per week:
10-15 hours per week/depending upon the number of weeks scheduled to intern.

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communication

Desired skills and qualifications:
-Coursework in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Design, or related subjects
-Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
-Proven track record of prioritizing and completing multiple assignments
-Be available a minimum of 10 hours per week
-Flexible schedule – Be available to work occasional evenings & weekends
-Reliable transportation

-Preference may be given to applicants who are skilled in the use of Adobe InDesign Publisher, Photo Shop, all MicroSoft Office products, and those who have a laptop available with a licensed version of InDesign.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
-Pass criminal background check
-Pass driving record check
-Pass sex offender registry check
-Provide three references


Description of intern responsibilities:
-Write press releases, media alerts, and public service announcements
-Distribute information to news media and community
-Assist in development and distribution of newsletter
-Assist in the design of displays and other materials
-Create exciting fliers
-Assist in archiving media clippings
-Develop and update mailing lists
-Handle brochure requests
-Assist with filing, copying and other clerical tasks
-Other duties as assigned

v The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
v The student’s copy of all work produced
v The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
v Final paper
v The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
v The internship sponsor final evaluation

Method of Evaluation:
v Student’s journal/log: 20%
v Student’s work: 20 %
v Paper: 20%
v Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%
v Internship sponsor final evaluation: 20%

Calendar:
v E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.
v Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
v All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.

Internship objective: This internship will be designed to teach all aspects of Human Resources including recruitment and retention of our associates, as well as compliance with labor laws, state/federal guidelines regarding skilled nursing facilities. You will also learn how to effectively communicate with staff individually, small/large group settings, benefits administration, and workman’s compensation.

About the interning organization: Life Care Center of Plainwell is a skilled nursing facility in Plainwell, MI (10 miles north of Kalamazoo), which offers rehabilitation and long-term care to patients. LCCP employs our own staff including therapists, nurses, nurse aides, dietary, housekeeping/laundry services to a maximum capacity of 117 patients. Life Care operates more than 200 skilled nursing homes, assisted living, retirement living communities, home services care, and Alzheimer’s centers.

Description of intern responsibilities: Recruitment including reviewing resumes and applications, interviews, job offers, and job fairs; Retention including organizing luncheons, recognition activities, completion of exit interviews; Compliance including completing I-9’s, licensures, etc.; Communication to all-staff; Workman’s Comp/OSHA; and management of associate benefits.

Internship objective: Educate current clients regarding the resourcesand internet tools available to them as clients. Develop marketing tools for Fritz Financial & Insurance Services Kalamazoo. Develop enhancements to the web site.

Interning organizations mission: To strengthen community relationships within the Kalamazoo area through building awareness of the benefit of positive independent annual reviews, service awareness and the overall economic impacts on business owners.

Fritz Financial Insurance Services is a small start up firm with exceptionally high standards of customer service promoting community not for profit organizations and our local economy. The goal in growth will be realized by gathering independent business owner’s needs analysis through networking and build awareness of our neighbors. Second, educate the consumer regarding the importance of annual business reviews and services with value added savings. Third, build partnerships with other local organizations that need joint marketing and promotional assistance.

Desired skills and qualifications: Student intern should be motivated and have apassion for measurable growth of Fritz Financial & Insurance Services.
The intern also needs good knowledge of Microsoft Publisher and Word.
Some graphic design and web building skills necessary.

Description of intern responsibilities: Educate clients and the business community with resources available to them. Personally contact potential clients and new clients about services available. Provide and upload new, creative information to Face book, Linked-In and the web site as well as other links. Develop marketing materials. Assist in planning and working at member and community events.
